Compared to conventional identification systems, RFID technology has one decisive advantage: no direct “visible contact” is necessary between the read/write unit and the transponder to read out information. An RFID system consists of a read/write unit, a transponder and the associated software. Information from the transponder is detected by means of electromagnetic waves. As a result, these systems can be used practically and reliably under even the most adverse conditions.
One of the big advantages of this technology becomes clear with stationary systems for RFID identification: in order to detect objects, it is enough to simply be “near” the reader. As a result, readers can be integrated at nearly any location in the system. In the area of RFID, Leuze electronic offers technical solutions that are oriented towards practical use. We are all familiar with them from the supermarket checkout, but the identification of goods and materials by universally used bar codes also controls many processes in logistics and in many production lines. Safety Switches and magnetically coded safety systems can be used to monitor movable guards such as protective doors, sliding grids or flaps, for example in the food, pharmaceutical or timber industries. Opening the protective devices triggers an E-STOP command. Safety Locking Devices keep the protective doors locked, thereby preventing the inadmissible access of people until the guarded machine no longer poses a danger. The access to the danger zone is only released by an electric signal when either the dangerous movement has stopped (personnel protection) or an uninterruptible work process has been finished (machine protection).
For doors, flaps and covers that must remain closed during the operation of machines, Safety Switches for position monitoring and for the protection of personnel and systems are required. They are predestined for guarding machines and systems in which process or production interruptions are, in principle, possible or may be necessary. In addition to standard designs for universal use, Safety Hinge Switches and Safety Position Switches are available as alternatives to hinge switches on flaps.

The all-rounders among the sensors
Ultrasonic sensors are used whenever optical systems reach their limits. Hence, partially and fully transparent or extremely dark objects can be detected just as easily as objects with reflecting surfaces or objects in dusty, vaporous or humid environments.
This ultrasonic sensor features a high sound pressure and is thus suitable even for air transport systems.
From narrow to wide, this diffuse reflection ultrasonic scanner offers three different opening angles and sound lobes.
The cylindrical M12 design with two different opening angles ensures high flexibility during installation and use.
Short design, teachable and up to two independent switching outputs are the key features of this series. Also optionally available with angled head, which enables a sound outlet 90 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the M18 sensor.
Whenever large ranges are needed, the M30 sensors from the 430 series are the right choice. Two separate switching outputs can be set independently by means of potentiometer or PC software. A total of ten of these sensors can be easily synchronized with a cable.
