The basic purpose of the guide vanes is to convert a part of pressure energy at its entrance to the kinetic energy and then directs it to runner blades at the angle appropriate to the design. Moreover, guide vanes are pivoted and can be turned by a suitable governing mechanism to regulate the flow while the load changes. Guide vanes are fixed aerofoils that direct air, gas, or water into the moving blades of a turbine or into or around bends in ducts with minimum loss of energy.
