RTDs find use in almost all industries like plastic and rubber processing, food industries, pharmaceuticals, chemical & petrochemical plants, and power plants.

RTDs are available with single or double resistance elements and in 2, 3 or 4 wire circuits. Various types of protection sheaths for protection of the element and screw-in threaded bushes either fixed (welded) or adjustable by screws (for non-pressure application) or by compression fitting (for pressure application) for mounting are available.

RTD normally consists of spring-loaded insert, outer protecting sheath with mounting connections and cast aluminum terminal head. The insert assembly consists of Pt 100 element with silver/copper connection leads, insulated by ceramic multibore insulating tube/beads in a brass or stainless steel sheath with ceramic terminal block and brass terminals attached to a spring loaded arrangement.

In this instance, the ASTM definition of thermowell leaves a bit to be desired. Thermowells are typically constructed of solid drilled-out bar stock and are designed to protect a temperature sensor from flow, high pressure and harsh environments. Thermowells encase and protect temperature sensors from the harmful effects of the processes into which they are immersed without substantially insulating the temperature sensor (thermocouple, RTD, etc.) from the temperature of the process.

The most common types of thermowells are:

• Threaded : A threaded Thermowell is screwed into the process.
• Socket Weld : A weld in Thermowell is welded directly into the process
• Flanged Welded : A flanged Thermowell has a flange collar which is attached to a mating flange.

Powitec's PiT Indicator is a sophisticated tool for an online analysis of process conditions at rotary kilns for clinker production. The PiT Indicator enables the operator to immediately identify and react to changing process conditions in order to stabilise and smoothen the production, also in dusty or dark kiln atmospheres. Main target of the PiT Indicator is to balance optimal clinker quality at various fuel mixtures. With Powitec's PiT Indicator the operator is able to adjust the actually required fuel consumption.The PiT Indicator comprises two modules for process visualisation and online analysis:

Thermography module: The thermography reflects the temperature distribution in the bed flow field, including various special features like the 'Polyline'. Analogue outputs of temperatures can be usedas pyrometer signals

Prediction module (soft sensor): The prediction module offers the kiln operator a permanent online prediction of key parameters (e.g. free lime content, litre weight of clinker or NOX emission)

Powitec's PiT Navigator controls and optimises the complex clinker production process in rotary kilns. Powitec's state-of-the-art kiln control combines a self-learning, re-training software based on neural networks (NMPC – Non-Linear Model Predictive Control) and digital image processing of the sintering zone. Contrary to expert systems and conventional NMPC optimisers the PiT Navigator needs no manual re-training in case of changes in the process conditions (e.g. wearing of plant components, equipment modifications etc.) Powitec's PiT Navigator automatically adapts to these changes, determines their influence on the process results, re-adjusts the process models and steers the process according to the given targets. Even competing targets can also be controlled simultaneously! The PiT Navigator computes the ideal settings of the process actuators and automatically transmits set-point corrections to the DCS.

This is space-serving type motion sensor which consistsof a transducer to be mounted in the panel and a separated proximity switch to be mounted at the place where detection is conducted. Chute Switch is a safety switch vital to belt conveyors. It is used in order to stop  a belt conveyor instantly when a transported load clogs  a junction chute of the conveyor. This switch is so constructed that it should be mounted on the side wall of the junction chute by use of a square hole cut out in the wall. When the load clogs the junction , the swing plate of the chute  switch is pushed back with the pressure of accumulated load and then alarm signal to stop the belt conveyor is send.

Belt Sway Switch is a protective switch for detecting the sway or deviation of the belt conveyors and sends out an alarm signal and an emergency stop signal. This switch is used in material transport system for belt breakage prevention and ore-falling prevention due to belt sway.
