Dyne solutions have been used to measure wetting and predict adhesive potential of plastics and coated paperboard. This method is widely used to test the treatment level of plastic films intended for printing, laminating and coating. Test results are based on how varying surface tension solutions react when applied to a non-absorptive surface: If a given solution wets the surface, its dyne level is lower than the substrate's; if, instead, it rapidly forms beads, its dyne level exceeds that of the substrate. This method offers adequate precision and replicability for most capability studies, materials research and process control.

Air ions are molecules that have lost or gained an electron. Ions are present in normal air but are “stripped” out when an air is subject to filtration and conditioning. They are produced by radioactive emission or by phenomenon called “corona discharge” where a high voltage is applied to sharp point. All air ionization systems work by flooding the atmosphere with positive and negative ion, when ionized air comes in contact with a charge surface; the charge surface attracts ions of the opposite polarity. As a result the static electricity that has build up on products, equipment and surface is neutralized.

     
The emitter points of a shock-less static eliminator receive high voltage indirectly. If someone touches the ionizing points, he will feel only a minor tingling sensation. The ionized field is most intensely closed to the emitter pins. The best distance for good static neutralization is between 10 mm to 20 mm.

Antistatic air gun or Ionizing air gun is the ideal technique of removing static, contaminants and dust from three dimensional parts before assembling, packaging, painting or finishing.

The ion air gun neutralizes the static electricity and cleans at distances up to 2 feet.

When ordinary compressed air is used to remove dust, its efficiency gets reduced. In case the static charge, which holds the dust to the product is not neutralized, both the the product and the dust will remain statically charged and capable of re-contamination. The Eltech circular static eliminator electrode is highly suitable for installation on vertical form and fill machinery.
