Aspartame is basically an artificial, nonsaccharide sweetener which is used in some foods and beverages as a sugar substitute. Aspartame is a methyl ester of phenylalanine and is also used in pharmaceutical products as a sugar replacement in chewable tablets and sugarfree liquids.
