Southfield Paints Ltd. was Southfield Group’s first company and was established in 1972 by founder Chairman & Managing Director, Mr. S.S.Hegde, who has vast experience in the coatings field. With a humble beginning, Southfield Paints Ltd., (SPL) has grown today from strength to strength to become one of the leading Paint Companies in South India, manufacturing a wide range of sophisticated top quality Industrial Coatings. The company has always been progressive and has constantly kept abreast with the changing pattern of customers needs for improved and newer products, which are technically superior and cost effective. The result is that the company has not only succeeded in retaining all their old customers, but is able to add more number of new customers every year in their fold.
THE GROWTH OF SOUHFIELD:
1. From 1972-1981:Commencing the operation with manufacturing only Thinners and Picture coating varnishes went into manufacturing of paints in 1982 in a new factory set up on a green field site measuring more than a lakh sq. ft. area allotted by KIADB in a prestigious locality of Whitefield Industrial Area.
3. Paints activity started initially with manufacturing and marketing only NC Paints for Auto Refinishing Market and other industrial consumers under brand name of Southlac, which became very popular during 1980’s.
4. In 1987, the company moved out from retail market to industrial customers and expanded the product line as well as production capacity exclusively to cater industrial coating segment.
5. In mid-nineties, Southfield group saw an opportunity in powder coatings, which was latest technology in the coatings industry and was rapidly gaining industrial acceptance due to its superior properties and eco-friendly nature of the product.
6. Thus, in 1997, Southfield Group promoted another company viz. Southfield Powders Limited to manufacture top quality powder coatings in technical collaboration with M/s. Becker Powder Coatings Ltd., UK, acquiring their latest technology and set up a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility on a new site measuring 45,000 sq. ft. adjacent to the existing Liquid Paint Unit.
7. Recognising the work in developing import substitution products, the company was honoured with SIATI award for its excellence in indigenisation of paints for aircraft / helicopter application in 1998 helping the country by savingsaving valuable foreign exchange.
8. In 2003, in an effort to consolidate its position in the market, Southfield Group merged both the companies to become Southfield Paints Limited(SPL) having two distinct divisions viz. Liquid Paints Division and Powder Coating Paints Division. This will offer strategic advantage to the company since most of our customers are using both liquid & powder paints and hence besides ensuring closer shade match between powder and liquid paints all their needs can be met from one single source.
